Lecturer and Researcher in Immunology / Immunology Research: Development and Characterisation of Anti-Infectious Monoclonal Antibodies

Response deadline: May 25, 2026
Workload:
50%
Employment level:
Teacher-researcher
Duration of the contract:
From November 02, 2026 to August 31, 2027
Location:
UFR Fac Pharmacie
Domaine la Merci 2 Chemin Duhamel

About the organization

The courses will take place at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Grenoble, headed by Prof Walid RACHDI. It is a teaching and
research unit (UFR) that trains future pharmacists and healthcare professionals in the service of patients.

For further information, please see the Faculty of Pharmacy's website (in French only).

The research will be carried out at the Structural Biology Institute of Grenoble, under the supervision of Professor Poignard, within the Complement, Antibodies and Infectious Diseases (CAID) group, and more specifically within the Antibodies and Infectious Diseases (AID) team. The AID team focuses on: i) studying the humoral immune response and its role in infections, including the characterization at the serum level of the polyclonal antibody response during infections and after vaccination, particularly in the context of viral infections; ii) the isolation of human monoclonal antibodies to combat viral, bacterial, and parasitic infectious diseases, especially those for which medical needs (therapeutic, vaccinerelated, or diagnostic) remain unmet.

For further information, please see the Structural Biology Institute of Grenoble website (in French only).

Your mission

Your mission will be to teach immunology to Pharmacy and Biotechnology students.
In research, your projects will focus on the isolation, through single B cell approaches, of human monoclonal antibodies for therapeutic and vaccine applications, as well as on the characterization of immune responses in infected and vaccinated individuals.

Main activities

  • Teach immunology (fundamental immunology, immunopathology, immunotherapies, immunotechnologies) through lectures, tutorials, and practical laboratory sessions to students in the Pharmacy curriculum (2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th years), as well as to Bachelor’s and Master’s (M1 and M2)students in Biotechnology for Health, as well as Medical Biology residents.
  • Be responsible for five Teaching Units: “Immunology” for 2nd-year Pharmacy; “Immunopathology” for 4th-year Pharmacy; “Immunology” for 1styear Biotechnology; “Immunology” for 2nd-year Biotechnology; “Pain and Inflammation” for 3rd-year Pharmacy.

The research will align with the thematic areas of the AID team, with a particular focus on:

  • the development of new approaches to isolate human monoclonal antibodies with therapeutic potential against multidrug-resistant bacteria (P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae);
  • the implementation and optimization of assays to evaluate the different effector functions of antibodies;
  • the study of humoral responses at the polyclonal level in animal models immunized with vaccine candidates.

Preferred qualifications

You are expected to have the following skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in immunology and a good understanding of the organization of Pharmacy studies. A University Diploma (DU) in Immunology would be an asset.
  • Capacity to endorse the responsibility for five Teaching Units (UE).
  • Ability to deliver lectures (CM), tutorials (TD), and practical laboratory sessions (TP).
  • Pedagogical adaptability to diverse audiences (Pharmacy, Bachelor’s degrees, M1, M2).
  • Design of teaching materials.
  • Conducting research projects and writing grant applications, and research papers.
  • Technical expertise and in-depth knowledge in the isolation, production as well as functional and molecular characterization of monoclonal antibodies.
  • Technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of various antibody characterization methods at the polyclonal level (ELISA, indirect immunofluorescence, Western blot, etc.).
  • Independent in single-cell sorting by FACS.
  • Supervision of students undertaking research internships in the laboratory (M1, M2).

An exemption from the degree requirement may be granted if you are in the final year of your PhD and are able to defend your thesis by 31 August 2027. Please include a letter of confirmation from your supervisor with your application.
