The Néel Institut is one of the leading condensed matter laboratory in France. Its research subjects cover a large scientific range : superconductivity, quantum fluids, new materials, crystallography, surface science, quantum nano-electronics, nano mechanics, quantum and non-linear optics, spintronics, magnetism. More than 450 persons work in the Néel Institut, of which around 160 researhers and 180 PhD students and posdocs. The Institut is organised in 3 departements and 16 research groups, mostly experimental. orants.
Group description The Condensed Matter Theory group is the largest theory group in the Institut. It is composed of 12 permanent researchers and 11 PhD students and postdocs.
Your mission
The aim of this project is to replace the solution of the master equation of Quantum mechanics, i.e. the Schrödinger equation, by an artificial intelligence model, in order to predict the parameters of the effective models used to described the properties of strongly-correlated quantum-materials. A special attention will be devoted to magnetic properties and the prediction of effective magnetic-exchange integrals.
Under the supervision of Marie-Bernadette Lepetit, reasearch directror at CNRS, your work will consist in increasing the existing database, in developping, testing and training IA models up to the required accuracy and transferability. The database development will not require specific knowledge in quantum mechanics (even if it will be appreciated), as the methodology and sofwares are already in place and well-established. They will however required the use of the French supercomputer centers.
Main activities
Research work.
Perform ab-initio calculations on supercomputers to increase the database.
Develop and train IA software on supercomputers.
Learn methods and techniques required to complete the project.
Conduct literature reviews.
Participate to the writting of scientific publications and present the project results at conferences.
Collaborate with PhD students, interns and postdocs of Prof. MB Lepetit research group that work on related subjects.
Collaborate with Prof. Anne Milet group and the other member of the SpiNN project.
Position specificities Pass security checks for Néel Institut and supercomputer centers.
Preferred qualifications
Knowledge in artificial intelligence.
Knowledge of linux OS.
Python coding and knowledge of the main AI librairies such as Pytorch.
Some knowledge in quantum mechanics will be appreciated
Acquintance with ab-initio electronic structure calculations will be appreciated.
High level of rigor in reasoning and scientific work.
Ability to work in a group.
French or English C1/C2 level
Professionnal experience : PhD level.
Desired education, degree, and experience: PhD in condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry or artificial intelligence applied to science
Diplomas required
PhD ou Doctorate
Salary
Starting at €3020 gross per month, depending on experience.
